A Web Awash in Liquor Ads, Promoting Moderation

My Reactions:
This article is talking about a new way or method to tell people not to drink too much alcohol and take a serious attitude toward drinking liquor.
Too much alcohol would be harmful to our health; however, moderate drinking of liquor could be helpful to our body. Maybe thats why those kinds of methods would come into existence to make people realize how not to drink excess alcohol on an easy way. Nevertheless, there are two opposite commentaries on this issue. As for me, I think its hard to consider whether they are wrong. Instead, I think we should judge them by what measure they take and if they do work. Take the new cigarettes policy in Taiwan on January of this year, people could not smoke in public or a place that are three people in there. Besides, the government lifts the taxes in cigarettes and raises the price of them, hoping that those people who love smoking would get rid of having a smoke because of the high price of cigarettes. Although it doesnt work on the heavy smokers, it makes teenagers and those people who first time to try smoking really stop buying cigarettes. There is also a ad in America, it says that there is a boy trying to kiss a girl, but the girl rejects because the boys mouth is a flavor of a cigarette. It successfully warns teenagers and decreases the number of teenagers who smoke.
As a result, the campaign in the article is successful because they use the moderate and right way to remind people how dangerous if they drink too much and drink in a responsible way. (276)

Paging Dr. Gupta: A TV Star for Surgeon General?

My Reactions:

According to this article,it talks about a Gutpa, who is the first unorthodox choice for Surgeon General.
I think it's difficult to be a great official,no matter what kinds of positions they occupy. Besides, what actually does matter is that what the officials do for people not what kind of backgrounds they are from. Maybe Gutpa is the first time to contact with administrative matters in formal. On the other hand, he has a lot of experiences in performing surgery at Emory University. I think the most different part of his work now is that he has to not only focus on his professional field but everything about public's health.
Moreover, to be a Surgeon General should take many sort of duties such as educating the public on all public-health issues, ranging from HIV prevention to obesity, insurance coverage, disease-prevention efforts and etc. He pays much more attention to what the President's focus puts .For example, the President Obama’ s new political aim on health is about the preventive health-care. Therefore, what Gutpa should do is figure some practicable methods out and bring this message to the public. He shows up on TV programs to tell the Americans the details about this policy and writes the article for Time magazine to achieve the consequences he wants.In addition, there were many officials had worked for promoting the Americans’ healthy living goals before. The most important thing is that they have to take everything involved in this issue into consideration so that they could really make correct policies for people. (259)
